David Baker Tributes - 2We have lost a fine man and friend who worked tirelessly to make our lives more interesting and rewarding! I have only had the pleasure of knowing him since the early 90's, but considered him a good friend and mentor. Someone who was always ready with advice and good natured support for anyone who showed the slightest interest in our branch of the hobby! Our world will be a lesser place without him! Eric Cooper Very sad. I always liked him and admired his work for SAM1066 and the 'Clarion'. Fortunately the SAM movement looks to be in very good hands so the future is bright. Sorry you have to tell us all this. Ron Firth I met David a few times here in Sicily and in Rome. I agree with you, the vintage model community have lost a big man and we all have lost a good friend. Carmelo Bruttaniti It is very sad to read this kind of news! I met David Baker several times at the Cabbage Patch Nationals in Peterborough and it was always nice to talk to him. He was really a nice guy and 'the' proponent of vintage aeromodelling in Europe - for freeflight and for control line! I will miss him! Willi Schmidt Just read the email from SAM 1066 - I didn't know David personally, but still very saddened by the news. Russ Lister I was saddened to hear of the passing of Dave Baker. I had met him at a SAM event in Pensacola several years ago that I attended as a spectator. I have a fondness for planes of all varieties but for the most part my flying has been RC sailplanes. I enjoyed meeting and talking with Dave and there was a close buddie of Dave's. I found them both to be accomplished as modelers and friendly and outgoing. Please give my condolences to friends and family of Dave from an aquaintance in Huntsville AL who was priviledged to know him. Ron Range Snipped from the Vintage and Old Timer Designs Forum.A great guy with a marvelous sense of humor. An English version of John Pond. - RyanNX211 I met David and his wife Hilda, many years ago. I used to go to Middle Wallop, and fly my free flight models, They used to organise the events with the lightest touch. Lovely people. - Dekan I will remember him as a great friend, extraordinary modeler and man of very demonstrative and exuberant character. - Guizzo 17 Only today I knew about the passing of David Baker. He was my guest at the Tournament Wings of Portugal some years ago and it was a very fortunate meeting to me. I met a man with a deep culture in latus sense but also a living encyclopedia of model airplanes. He sent to me lots of Clarion newsletters, and some plans specially the Tomboy he used to say" I build this in an afternoon". I´m very sad because we have lost with him, a part of our own memory. This lovely friend will be always with my thoughts. Next Tournament will have a special prize and tribute for Dave Baker.
